The Preserve at the Clam Farm

Project Summary

This is Phase one of 3 phases - total square footage 90,000 sf,The first phase approximately 29,000 sf. OCRM (Ocean and Coastal Resource Managment) is the agency for all coastal permitting. This property is surroundedby salt marsh and is defined as highly sensitive to any run off. Noconsolidation of stormwater was allowed. Gravelpave2 was approved becausethere is actually less runoff than the formerly exposed raw land beneath it.A commercial installation, it was spec'd for a 10 inch base: 5 inches ofcompacted, washed #57 stone over a non-woven fabric to keep stones frommigrating into the soil, on top of which was placed 2 1/2" of washed #89stone mixed with 2-1/2" of coarse, compactable, well-draining sand,compacted to between 92% and 95% MP. Top was finished with an inch and aquarter of sharp, washed #89 granite.All landscaping material was delivered on a fully loaded tractor trailer andinstalled, after the Gravelpave2 was placed and finished. All the concreteaprons to the garages were also installed with Gravelpave2 in place; werequested loads to be limited to 8 cubic yards per truck, not unlike manycompleted subdivisions. Photos were taken in March, 2011, and you can seehow well it is held up, even under heavy duty use. Now that the economy is beginning to pick up, Phase 2 is expected to startFall of 2011. The Cities of Charleston, North Charleston, Mt Pleasant andSummerville seem to be pleased with Gravelpave2 because of its durabilityand total functionality as a complete stormwater management system in and ofitself.
