Project Profile:

Westtown School

Project Summary

Westtown School was established in 1799. It seems in keeping with the historical nature of the school to have a GV2 parking lot which is located on the east side of the property by the middle and lower schools off Shady Grove Way. Both the parking bays and the drive aisles are done in GV2. The condition of the GV2 is excellent and the selection of gravel stone fill is perfect in size, type, and abrasion resistance.

The GV2 porous parking lot looks very natural with the stone and scattered pine needles, very much in keeping with the historical nature of this private school.
Permeable Pavers were installed in the parking lots at Westtown School, Westtown, Pennsylvania, using Gravelpave2.
View from the entrance shows the GV2 large parking lot in a wooded setting with parking laid out in separate sections among several trees and shrubs.

This is a drive lane of GV2 and the surface is very uniform with no rutting or potholes. The selection of gravel stone fill is perfect in size, type, and abrasion resistance.
Parking was worked into the site between existing large trees. This is a good tree preservation technique because rain will still drain through the GV2 cross section and feed the roots which spread out to the entire tree canopy foot print.
Here you can see how the edges of the parking bays were finished with raised timbers which keeps the GV2 separate from the grass areas so that grass won’t grow onto the GV2 and the stone fill won’t go onto the grass. Edging is important.
Parking patterns are laid out not only with timbers as shown here but also with higher vertical shrubs. This will be helpful in the winter for defining plowing locations.
A careful layout will keep traffic isolated to the different pod sections without concentrating traffic along any single axis, thus spreading the wear out over a larger area. This is a very smart design for our GV2 product and you can see the long term results are excellent.
