Project Profile:
World’s Fair Park Performance Lawn
Project Summary
Originally planned as a concrete slab for concert buses and semi trucks, the Knoxville Public Building Authority decided to use a porous paving surface for the performance lawn at the newly redesigned World’s Fair Park in Knoxville, Tennessee. The Grasspave2 would be installed at the south end of the performance lawn and along the sidewalk running adjacent to the performance lawn. An irrigation system was installed prior to the Grasspave2 installation. Crushed pea gravel and sand were used as the base course at a depth of 12”. Sod was then installed over the Grasspave2 and seeding was done over the remainder of the performance lawn. All Goals of the project were met: 1. Provide a surface for the use of concert buses and heavy trucks 2. Provide a surface that would complement the surrounding landscape of the new Knoxville Convention Center 3. Provide a surface that would be quick and easy to install 4. Provide a surface that would not require additional space for a detention basin.
